Pentlow Residents show off their active side
Energetic Pentlow Nursing Home residents have been praised for taking part in a national activity challenge. The National Association for Providers of Activities for Older People (NAPA) presented Pentlow, in Summerdown Road, with a highly commended certificate after taking part in the Breath of Fresh Air Challenge. Jill Gunter, activities coordinator at Pentlow, said: “The real challenge at Pentlow was finding new activities for residents, as they take part in so much already. We do have a very active community here and residents have the chance to get out and about most days – trips to the seaside are a favourite.
It was great that this was recognised by NAPA, as it is an organisation dedicated to increasing the profile and understanding of the activity needs for older people – something we pride ourselves on here at Pentlow. Everyone had a role to play, with kitchen staff preparing traditional fare for evening picnics, and carers, receptionists and visitors adding their ideas on how to bring a breath of fresh air to residents’ lives.

Care worker Kay brought in her pet rabbit, a sensory box was created to bring the outside indoors for residents and a visit to a farm was enjoyed. Pentlow Nursing Home is part of Canford Healthcare, which includes Pentlow Community Care, based in Church Street, Old Town, and Inglewood Nursing Home in Nevill Avenue, Hampden Park. Canford in Eastbourne includes a Meal Delivery Service and training division.
